As if the bus service couldn't get any worse the ticket price goes up again today. An off peak fare for me one way costs £1.50, a peak fare one costs £2.00 and a dayrider costs £3.30. The "cheapest" way for me to travel each day is buying a dayrider as I often make two peak fare journeys. The smelly, noisy bus service is now alot more expensive than the local quick and clean trains.

I attempted to catch the 9.35am bus (from Burley) but it didn't show up. FirstGroup is developing a cut-price, "no-frills" bus serviceThey are using old buses which would have otherwise been withdrawn from service and charging a new cheap fare of 50p. The bus due to depart at Ilkley bus station at 07.14pm did not turn up or depart. The next bus was at 08.03pm. Why does it cost £1.90 for a day-rider ticket to Leeds but it costs £2.70 for a day-rider ticket to Ilkley? From my stop, the town Ilkley (where I work) is 5 miles away yet it costs me less to travel to Leeds which is 18 miles away. Crazy!

The 11.35am bus from Otley was either late or the next one was early because the bus showed up at 11.50am. The 16.55pm bus from Leeds broke down at Otley. Smoke was pouring of the back of the bus so we all had to wait for the next one to arrive from Leeds which took 20 minutes. Unbelievable day for the X84 bus service. First of all I was late for work as the 9.35am bus due from Otley was 20 minutes late. I rang West Yorkshire Metro up on Tuesday 6th April and I finally got through to someone about my bus stop. He said he'd put up a temporary bus stop until a new bus stop can be built. The bus fares have increased by 10p. It may not sound much but that's an extra £1.00 a week which means I have to pay an extra £50 a year for a rubbish bus service! Two X84 buses that I caught were late today. The most annoying one being the 15.24 from Ilkley. It was so late that when it arrived, I had to pay peak fare because it arrived after 15.30 (about 15 minutes late). It was a very cold day and I was frozen after waiting all that time for the bus.

Bus stop 14765 (near the Sewage Works on Ilkley Road between Burley and Otley) is damaged. There was a road accident the other day and the dry stone wall was damaged causing rocks to fall on the very small space where there is to stand. I stood waiting at my bustop to get the 8.35am X84 bus into Burley so I could get to the doctors for a much needed blood test at 8.40am. The bus was so late in coming to my stop that when I finally got to the docters at 9.00am I was told I couldn't be fit in that day and I must come in another day.
